Isa Luengo is a filmmaker.
In their work, they reflect on sexual and gender dissidence, the historical memory of women and queer people, and the limits of the body. Aesthetically, they are interested in the hybridization of languages and film genres, looking to bastardize them. It’s their way to engage with the filmic traditions that inspire them.
Their latest narrative short film ‘Los andares’ / ‘The Wanderers’ (2026), co-directed with Sofia Esteve, has premiered at the Official International Competition of Locarno Film Festival.
With Sofia Esteve, they were selected for the Catalan Film Academy’s Script Residency with their debut feature film ‘La forma animal’.
The project has also participated at Sitges Film Festival’s Fantastic Residency Woman in Fan 2025, the Script2Film MFI’s program, and has been selected at Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s AGORA’s Crossroads Coproduction Forum 2025, and at Atlántida Mallorca Talents Lab 2026, being awarded at both forums.
She has co-written and co-directed the documentary short film ‘Els buits’ / ‘Gaps’ (2024), awarded at festivals such as Málaga, D’A or Alcances, selected by several others like Fipadoc or Márgenes, and Nominated for the Goya and Gaudí Awards of the Spanish and Catalan Film Academies.
Also the narrative short film ‘Perpetua felicidad’ / ‘Eternal Happiness’ (2022), candidate for the Goya Awards, selected by festivals such as Leuven International Short Film Festival, and awarded by others like Queercinemad.
And the documentary short film ‘La ciutat interior’ / ‘The Interior City’ (2017), which premiered at IDFA, and was selected by Málaga Film Festival, FICG and Beijing International Short Film Festival, among others.
Isa has co-created La calumnia, an independent research project around queer genealogies in film, with which she has organized workshops and teaches classes at different institutions, including the Spanish Cinemathèque, the Reina Sofía Museum of contemporary art, or the Master's Degree in Gender Studies and Communication at the UAB.
